It was an exciting night Sunday as Darren Smith entered the cage. From the outset it was obvious that Darren was the bigger and stronger of the two. After a lot of cage pressure and ground and pound, Smith was able to secure the rear mount as he pounded Miranda in round one.

This scenario played out again in round two and three as Smith took Miranda down from every position, pounded him on the ground and attempted submissions via rear choke. Cecil Peoples, the referee, almost stopped the contest a few times but Victor Miranda held on and toughed it out.

Kudos to Darren for a great fight!

OC Kickboxing & Mixed Martial Arts instructor Mario Navarro of Huntington Beach, CA submitted his opponent 40 seconds into the first round of the Main Event at Conquest in the Cage 5 in Montebello, CA on Friday, Nov. 20 2009.

Right out of the gates, Mario threw a Jab-Cross-Right Head Kick combination, catching his opponent with the kick. After getting kicked, his opponent immediately shot and took Mario down. Mario pulled guard and tried for an omoplata submission but the guy escaped and threw a barrage of punches from the top. Mario tried for a triangle with a leg underhook which prevented the guy from slamming him, but the opponent put his other arm in to defend the triangle. Mario switched to an arm bar on that arm forcing the guy to tap at about 40 seconds into the first round!
