Yoko Hamamura Wins Maximum Force

April 25, 2010

Yoko had a good night as he walked into the cage for his first time at the Gladiator Challenge “Maximum Force” event.

It was a classic big man match up. The opponent opposite of Yoko had arms like logs and a chest that looked more like a barrel. I felt more like I was in a cinema watching an old King Kong vs Godzilla film than an MMA fight.

Within the first minute of the first round the fight went to the ground with Yoko trying to secure a triangle, after a quick scramble it ended up back on the feet with Yoko against the cage. A second later his opponent tried a head and arm throw that Hamamura quickly ducked, took his back and choked him with a standing rear naked, ending the fight.

It was an exciting night Sunday as Darren Smith entered the cage. From the outset it was obvious that Darren was the bigger and stronger of the two. After a lot of cage pressure and ground and pound, Smith was able to secure the rear mount as he pounded Miranda in round one.

This scenario played out again in round two and three as Smith took Miranda down from every position, pounded him on the ground and attempted submissions via rear choke. Cecil Peoples, the referee, almost stopped the contest a few times but Victor Miranda held on and toughed it out.

Kudos to Darren for a great fight!
